Non Experimental Research Design Psychology Essay

Non Experimental Research Design Psychology Essay This section subtleties the philosophy that will be utilized to direct this investigation. Procedure is a methodology, or strategy used to direct an examination. The viewpoints that will be examined in this section incorporate the researchs configuration, approach, test, instrument, technique, and furthermore information assortment and examination. 3.2 Researchs Approach and Design 3.2.1 Researchs Approach There are two sorts of approaches utilized in research, which are quantitative methodology and subjective methodology. As indicated by Blaxter, Hughes and Tight (as refered to in Hughes, 2006) Quantitative examination is an investigation that worried about the assortment and investigation of information in numeric structure. It underlines generally enormous scope and agent sets of information, and is frequently introduced or seen as being about the social event of 'realities. Subjective exploration is worried about gathering and dissecting data in whatever number structures as would be prudent, for the most part non-numerical structure. It centers around investigating littler quantities of occasions or models which are viewed as being intriguing or lighting up, and plans to accomplish 'profundity as opposed to 'broadness. In this examination, the information gathered by specialist will be in numerical structure, which acquired from the polls. Therefore, the methodology utilized in this investigation is quantitative examination. 3.2.2 Researchs Design As per Chua Yan Piaw (2006), there are three fundamental plans in research, in particular obvious exploratory structure, non-test plan, and semi trial structure. Genuine test configuration considers the connection between the free factors and controlled factors, controls the autonomous factors and watches the progressions on controlled factors. Non-test configuration is utilized when the treatment is unimaginable as the autonomous factors normally exist, and the respondents will be haphazardly conveyed into each gathering. This structure considers the connection between autonomous factors and controlled factors without control the free factors. Other than that, semi trial configuration ordinarily used to assess the adequacy of certain program when then the arbitrarily circulation of the respondents in the examination is preposterous. It considers the connection between free factors and controlled factors (Chua, 2006). Non-test research structure As indicated by Chua Yan Piaw (2006), there are a great deal of non-test structures, including review, field research, contextual analysis, activity examination, ethnography, etc. Review is one of the most generally utilized non-trial research structure, which utilized in various type of media, for example, magazine, papers, and TV to gather information from subjects who react to a progression of inquiries concerning practices and suppositions with respect to certain issue, or to study the adequacy of an item or plan. Ordinarily meeting or quetionnaires will be utilized in gathering information. Field research alludes to social affair essential information from a regular habitat without doing a lab explore or an overview, where the scientist must be happy to step into new conditions and watch, take an interest, or experience those universes without anyone else. Contextual analysis is an inside and out investigation of a solitary occasion, circumstance, or person, where the scientist looks at existing sources like reports and chronicled records, conducts interviews, takes part in direct perception, and even member perception, to gather the data top to bottom with respect to singular practices and social conditions. Activity research alludes to the examination started to take care of a quick issue or an intelligent procedure of dynamic issue solvin lef by people working with others in groups or as a feature of a network of training to improve the manner in which they address and take care of issues. Review 3.3 Sampling As indicated by Gay and Airasian (2003), testing is the way toward choosing various members for an investigation so that they speak to the bigger gathering from which they were chosen (p. 101). Choosing an example is a significant advance in directing an examination study, especially for quantitative exploration. The decency of the example decides the weightiness and generalizability of the exploration results (Gay Asian, 2003, p. 103). 3.3.1 Population The initial phase in inspecting is to characterize the populace. An example includes the people, things, or occasions chose from a bigger gathering alluded to as a populace. The populace is the gathering important to the scientist, the gathering to which the consequences of the examination will in a perfect world sum up (Gay Airasian, 2003, p. 102). The area of this investigation is Sabah, and the populaces of this examination are on the whole the upper structure understudies in auxiliary schools in Sabah, who are 16 to 17 years of age. At first, the analyst will gets the data about the upper structure understudies from all the optional schools in Sabah, and afterward decide the examples which are associated with this investigation. The scientist will get the data about the complete number of upper structure understudies in every one of the schools, since it may impacts the results of the investigation. 3.3.2 Sampling Method As per Chua Yan Piaw (2006), there are two primary examining techniques, which are likelihood inspecting and non-likelihood testing (p. 189). As indicated by Gay and Airasian (2003), likelihood examining, which otherwise called irregular inspecting, strategies are workable for the scientist to determine the likelihood, or possibility, that every individual from a characterized populace will be chosen for the example, and these testing are totally founded on arbitrariness in the choice of the example (p. 103). Non-likelihood inspecting, which is otherwise called non-arbitrary examining, strategies don't have irregular testing at any phase of test choice, it is utilized when the irregular testing is unimaginable, for example, educators or managers select understudies or classes as the examples (p. 114). In this investigation, irregular examining technique will be utilized to choose the example. Gay and Airasian (2003) states that there are four essential irregular inspecting methods or techniques, specifically basic arbitrary examining, defined testing, bunch inspecting, and orderly inspecting, which are likewise alluded to as likelihood examining (p. 103). Straightforward arbitrary testing is the way toward choosing an example so that all people in the chose populace have an equivalent and free opportunity to be chosen for the example, where the haphazardness in inspecting takes the choice of the example totally out of the analysts control by letting an irregular, or possibility, method select the example (p. 103). Separated examining is the way toward choosing an example so that recognized sub-bunches in the populace are spoken to in the example in a similar extent that they exist in the populace (p. 106). Other than that, bunch testing haphazardly chooses gatherings, not people; all the individuals chose bunches have comparative characterisics, and it is most helpful whe n the populace is huge or spread out over a wide geographic region (p. 108). In conclusion, efficient testing is the inspecting procedure wherein people are chosen from a rundown taking each Kth name (p. 110). Despite the fact that the instrument of understudies national character is intended to be material to all understudies in Malaysia, the optional school understudies will be chosen to test the instrument in this examination. The basis of picking upper structure understudies as the objective populace to test the instrument is they may be progressively full grown whenever contrasted with the lower structure understudies who are just 13 to 15 years of age. They may have a superior comprehension on the things expressed in the inquiries, and maybe they will give their reaction truly. Thus, the results which got from the upper structure understudies may be increasingly dependable and reliable whenever contrasted with lower structure understudies. All upper structure understudies from the auxiliary school in Sabah are over examined. Two irregular examples of 200 understudies and 2500 understudies will be bought for the two review concentrates by utilizing bunch inspecting strategy. Various schools will be arbitrarily chosen from every one of the locale in Sabah as the delegates of those areas. The auxiliary school understudies in Sabah are qualified to get the sent study. In the principal overview study, the poll will be at first sent to the arbitrary example of 200 understudies to inspect test-retest dependability of the instrument and its subscale. At that point, a continue mailing overview will be sent to the respondents from the underlying mailing once more. The test-retest unwavering quality of the instrument will be analyzed utilizing the information from the rest of the studies came back from both the underlying and rehash mailings. In the subsequent review study, the example should have been enormous so as to direct factor investigation to test the build legitimacy of the instrument. There is a general understanding among estimation methodologists that enormous example sizes are required for the strength of consequences of factor examination, the utilization of bigger example sizes in uses of components investigation will in general give results to such an extent that example factor loadings are increasingly exact appraisals of populace loadings and are likewise progressively steady, or less factor, across continued testing. The specialist will send the refined survey to the subsequent irregular example of 2500 understudies so as to perform factor investigation, and afterward to test build legitimacy and interior consistency unwavering quality of the instrument. 3.4 Researchs Procedures This examination will be led in two phases. Stage one is the instrument advancement, and stage two is the instrument testing and refining. Stage one comprises of three stages and stage two comprises of five stages. Every one of these means is portrayed in the accompanying area. 3.4.1 Stage One: Instrument Development The instrument improvement stage has three stages: (1) creating theoretical and operational meanings of the build of understudies national personality, (2) producing thing pool, and (3) deciding the for

The demise of a parent or close relative was the main thing that outranked separate (Zinsmeister, 1996). A separation in the family makes a significant life change for most you ngsters. Since the separation blast began in the 1960's, father-mother divorces have expanded at a disturbing rate. Today in excess of 1,000,000 children experience a separation in the family consistently in the United States alone (U.S.A. Today, p. 8). Separations are occurring surrounding us. The majority of us can relate straightforwardly, or have a few companions that have been influenced by divorces. Two of my dearest companions currently have a place with separated from families. The separations of my two companions' folks was excruciating for me just as them. I went through a long time helping them adapt to the separation related stressors. Today we despite everything have terrible recollections of those a while encompassing the separations, and periodically one of them will have a separate. Authority and Support In most separation circumstances, the mother has authority of the minor youngsters. The kids get support from the alien parent. Generally, the measure of help doesn't take care of a large portion of the expense of bringing up a kid. Also, a large number of the help payers don't pay everything of help granted by the courts (Lamb and Sternberg, 1997). Compensation garnishment and more grounded help implementation laws are potential answers for this issue. Joint authority is permitted in certain states. American Environmental Issues Essay - 2200 Words

American Environmental Issues (Essay Sample) Content: SurnameTutor CourseDate American Environmental IssuesMany human activities on the biophysical environments aim to promote productivity and enhance comfort and sustain the livelihoods of the human race. Certain human acts have contributed to major environmental problems experienced in the world. The United States has experienced serious environmental problems in history. There have been efforts to address environmental problems in America since 1960. Many publications provide accounts of the problems and the measures advanced in dealing with environmental issues in America. Literature on American environmental issues focus on many different topics with some of the issues attracting more weight from the authors and others treated less significantly. The discussion below explores certain publications on United States environmental issues and focuses on the themes they address. It addresses the topics they treat with more importance together with those they tend to downp lay. Moreover, the publications address themes sourced from various primary and secondary foundations. The arguments expressed also possess rhetorical strategies that influence the response of audiences differently. Many authors of materials on Americas environmental issues recognise that human activity is responsible for the problems American environment faces today. Worster in his publication The Wealth of Nature: Environmental History and the Ecological Imagination argues that the effects of human activities on the environment can be examined through nature. The settlement of people in America was motivated by agricultural activities and availability of water resources. With time resources became scarce and people overcrowded the few areas that contained these resources. Human settlement in America around water resources caused massive pollution of water. In addition the continued use of agricultural lands caused pollution of soil erosion. The author examines the consequences of agriculture on American Great Plains in chapter 14.Donald Worster uses texts from different historical authors in exploring the themes and advancing different argument of the history of environmental issues. The author examines the relationship between environmental issues and current intervention procedures. The author uses the works of Aldo Leopold in indicating how natural factors influence human settlements (Worster 180-183).Nature acts to create order in the society. The author shows how industrial developments have shown little respect for nature. He additionally uses primary information that reflects on his observation of environmental transformation over the years and respective remedies. Water became an important boundary defining measure. It defined issues of governance and science in the State of California. Issues such as the receivership of swamps in Sacramento River led to developments such as the building of Levelee. There have been responses from different scholars on how Worster treats Americas environmental issues .Robert Kelley in his book Battling the Inland Sea: American Political Culture, Public Policy, and Sacramento Valley agrees that nature can be used to judge the state of environment. Kelley does not accept the fact that human activities could be responsible for the current environmental state. Kelley goes ahead to explain the concept of formulating environmental policies in Sacramento River.AnalysisKelley and Worster both agree that environmental policies are formulated with the aim to improve current standards. Kelley recognises that the current situation of the environment needs to be improved and so policies should be put in place to protect the environment. Worsters insistence that human activities are responsible for environmental degradation cannot go unchallenged. By labelling human as the sole player in environmental degradation Worster fails to look into other agents that play a part in the said degradation. Both the autho rs are in agreement to the fact that the formulation of policies is apolitical affair and involves key political figures in the America. Many legislators from Sacramento under the leadership of Tem Darrell created a bill to control environmental operations in the arena of Sacramento. The proposed bill would encourage a review of Sacramento arena. The law would examine any adverse effects the river has on environmental policies. There are provisions in the bill that permit mediation of any disagreements emerging from issues on environment. Before people settled in Sacramento valley, the river was on free flow. Rain in winter and seasonal snowmelt would cause the river to overflow the banks and cause flooding. The emergence of dams and diversions has reduced fishing activities in the river. Dams and mining activities obstructed fish passages in the river. The author also demonstrates how nature influences the political and policymaking processes in the United States. Environmental po licies can generate both positive and negative results to the environment and the society. Water became an important boundary defining measure. It defined issues of governance and science in the State of California. Issues such as the receivership of swamps in Sacramento River led to developments such as the building of Levelee. Natural disasters like flooding caused a major structural development in California. The publication main argument is the fact that the environment has through history, lost its beauty. Building of Levee began in the region of Sycamore Slough creating an opening in the Rivers west bank. The next example of the reaction to Worsters perception on Americas environmental issues is the works by William Cronon. In the publication Uncommon Ground: Toward Reinventing Nature The author gives a vivid explanation of the concept of nature. In this book the author looks into the diverse definition of the term nature in the United States and the globe. The book provides d ifferent elements of environments. The writer presents different experiences that humans face in relation to an environmental element. The publication provokes diverse thoughts among the readers on the perceptions they can have concerning the environment. Readers have a chance to examine various issues about the environment. Questions arising from the discussion of the environment include what it really means, how it influences life, how human activities affect nature and the remedies for environmental issues. In describing the different perceptions of nature, the author brings the image of features like mountains, the volcano, the valleys and the orange light that flip through them, the sky and the city among other things (Cronon 23). The publication contains contents of diverse nature that help the readers acquire new means of perceiving and responding to nature. The book creates a relationship between nature and cultural concepts. This book provokes various questions among th e readers through exposing the threats that different environmental issues present to the society. It claims that the questions that relate to environmental issues and conservation cause apprehensions. However, addressing these questions is not an option (Cronon 26). There is the use of emotional appeal in invoking serious thoughts about the environment.Counter ArgumentCronon accepts the role of nature in defining the condition of the environment. The fact that Cronon realizes that nature has a role to play in environmental issues does not disqualify the possibility of human beings causing environmental degradation. Cronon seems to assume that Americas environmental issues are majorly caused by historical disasters caused by nature. The author in this case argues that environmental policies should be formulated to protect human beings from such disasters. Cronon argues that natural features such as Vocanic Mountains and floods play a big role in environmental degradation. The only weak link in his argument is that the environmental policies should aim at protecting humans from disasters instead of the environment. The environment comes before humans. It would be more appropriate to create policies that are driven towards preserving the environment rather that salvaging the conditions of mankind. The author contradicts Worsters argument with the idea that it is nature that is responsible for the living conditions of human beings in an environment. Cronon fails to mention the role of mankind in the process of making a better environment. The next example of a scholarly reaction to Worsters publication on environmental issues in America is the work by Carolyn Merchant. In her documentary named Major Problems in American Environmental History: Documents and Essays the author investigates issues such as pollution and environmental conservation and preservation of wildlife. The book additionally deals with the factor of globalization. The work studies how globaliza tion influences the American environment. The shape of the environment in history emerges here with exploration of different areas of the globe in diverse times of world history. Human activities like deforestation and agriculture in the society have negatively affected the environment in the United States. Activities like include the 17th century fairest in New England, tobacco and rice farming in the colonial south and globalisation have contributed to environmental degradation and conservation (Merchant 221-234). In essence, the book explores the greatest factors responsible for environmental problems through history and to present civilization. Although it explores some of the measures of dealing with the issue say through the Copenhagen meetings, the publication presents little proposals on the proper solutions to problems that affect nature. In the addition to the first reaction...

The supernatural and ordinary reality - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 798 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/10/30 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Bless Me Ultima Essay Did you like this example? The supernatural and ordinary reality are worlds that exist side by side. I dont believe the truth is out there, I believe it is within. To discover the truth and power within is to walk in the supernatural.-Rudolfo Anaya. The supernatural and magic are strong essences presented throughout Anayas captivating novel. There are many ways the characters of Bless Me Ultima and even the state of New Mexico reflect his comments. One of my favorite ways Ultima reflects Anayas comments is when she gives her final blessing to Antonio, I bless you in the name of all that is good and strong and beautiful, Antonio. Always have the strength to live. Love life, and if despair enters your heart, look for me in the evenings when the wind is gentle and the owls sing in the hills. I shall be with you† (Bless Me Ultima, pg. 247). This beautiful statement signifies her spiritual being that connects all living things and she assures him that her spirit will prevail with him and the lessons she has taught him will continue to help guide him. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The supernatural and ordinary reality" essay for you Create order Another example that reflects Anayas comments is a conversation Antonio has with his father Gabriel. Understanding does not come that easy, Tony†. You mean God doesnt give understanding? Understanding comes with life, he answered, as a man grows, he sees life and death, he is happy and sad, he works, plays, meets people†sometimes it takes a lifetime to acquire understanding, because in the end, understanding simply means having a sympathy for people, ( Bless Me Ultima, pg. 237). In that conversation Gabriel also mentions, Ultima has sympathy for people, and it is so complete that with it she can touch their souls and cure them† . That is her magic† Ay and no greater magic can exist. But in the end, magic is magic, and one does not explain it so easily. That is why it is magic. To the child, it is natural, but for the grown man it loses its naturalness†so as old men we see a different reality. And when we dream, it is usually for a lost childhood, or t rying to change someone and that is not good. So, in the end, I accept reality. (Bless Me Ultima, pg. 237). Ultima is wise and mysterious. We are torn between whether she is an ordinary woman with extraordinary power or if she may be of the supernatural world. A way Antonio reflects Anayas comments is when he sees the Golden Carp for the very first time. As he describes, the story Cico told him was unbelievable but it made perfect sense. He then goes home and shares the story with Ultima, and she smiles because she knows. He questions whether he should believe the story or not and Ultima replies, I cannot tell you what to believe As you grow into manhood you must find your own truths. (Bless Me Ultima, pg. 111-112) Another aspect that I think really reflects Rudolfo Anayas comment, To discover the truth and power within is to walk in the supernatural., are the vivid dreams sequences Antonio has foreshadowing the events that take place in the novel. The dreams help put things in perspective for Antonio as he transforms through his journey. Ultima teaches that things are not always as they seem, and they cannot be accepted that way. The whole must be looked at in order to truly understand. Antonio learns much from his experiences and uses Ultimas teachings to stay open minded and gain wisdom. In the end, however, Antonio learns that he must go his own path to reach total peace of mind and have the control over his dreams, not letting his dreams control him. Lastly, when thinking about the supernatural and the ordinary reality of the world, the state of New Mexico provides a great example of how those two things interact. New Mexico has been and is still greatly influenced by the Catholic Church. Prior to the arrival of the Spaniards, the Indigenous people who lived here worshiped very differently. Ultima is also a perfect example of blending cultures. Even though she practices indigenous beliefs she is still respectful of the Catholic Church. She attends mass and never tells Antonio that the things the church professes are wrong. She always encourages him to look within and come up with his own opinions/decisions. Bless Me Ultima has many themes and shares so much magic and history. Its super natural essence brings a powerful dynamic to the reading and makes it unforgettable. I enjoyed this book and I am glad I was given the opportunity to read it. In conclusion, these a few ways in which the characters of Bless Me Ultima and even the state of New Mexico reflect Rudolfo Anayas comments.

Types and Forms of Business Organization free essay sample

Types and Forms of Business Organization There are millions of successful businesses around the world. One common trait all these businesses is that they have some sort of organization. But â€Å"What is Organization? † – it is the first topic I would like to speak. Then I will tell you about â€Å"Structure of an Organization†. After that we consider the â€Å"Types and Forms of Business Organization† and the variety of â€Å"The Names of Companies† (plc, Ltd, etc. ) and, finally, I will tell some words about â€Å"International Business†. As I said before, I start with the definition of the organization.Organization is an open, dynamic, purposeful social system of cooperation designed to enhance individual effort aimed at goal accomplishment. It consists of the human element, the physical element, the work element, and the coordination element. Also it transforms resources into outputs for users. It is important to examine the various parts or components of organization theory in order to outline its broad scope. These components are: goals, work, power and authority, delegation, structure. The goal, or purpose, in organization is an objective or target to be achieved, generally by a specific date. For example, corporation may set a goal of doubling revenues in five years. Once the goal of an organization is established, it is time for the members to decide on the type of work activity that will be necessary to accomplish these goals. There are two fundamental types of work: primary and secondary. The primary (line) work consists of production and distribution of goods and services that will satisfy consumer needs. The secondary (staff) work consists of all those activities that support and extend the operations of primary work. What consists power and authority, power is the ability to influence others successfully and authority is a kind of power that has been given official recognition by the organization. Speaking about delegation, it may be defined as the process of transferring an obligation (responsibility) and an accompanying right (authority) from a superior to a subordinate position in the organization. It is this basic process that enables an organization to grow. Without delegation, an organization simply cannot exist and prosper. Now I tell you about the last component of organization, called structure.Structure is the hierarchical pattern of authority, responsibility, and accountability relationships designed to provide coordination of the work of the organization. There are two types of organizational structure – formal and informal. Organizations have a formal structure which is the way that the organization is organized by those with responsibility for managing the organization. They create the formal structures that enable the organization to meet its stated objectives. Often these formal structures will be set out on paper in the form of organizational charts. However, in the course of time an informal structure develops in most organizations which are based on the reality of day-to-day interactions between the members of the organization. Sometimes the informal structure may conflict with the formal one. Where this is the case the organization may become less efficient at meeting its stated objectives. However, in some cases the informal structure may prove to be more efficient at meeting organizational objectives because the formal structure was badly set out. Now let’s consider the types and forms of business organization. Speaking about types of business organization, I can say that there are three types of business organization: service, merchandising and manufacturing companies. Service companies have a type of business which can be described as selling â€Å"intangible† goods or selling one’s self – one’s expertise, one’s capabilities, one’s reliability, and one’s skills. Examples are a hair salon, an accounting firm, or a child care center. Merchandising companies have a type of business that purchases merchandise at wholesale cost and sells it at retail cost.Examples of merchandising businesses include a bridal boutique or a jewelry store and so on. Manufacturing companies are the companies in which one creates the product, in whole or in part, that one is selling. Examples of a manufacturing business include a furniture factory, an automobile factory, or even a small specialized business like a recycled products business. These three types of business organization may be organized as a single (often sole) proprietorship, partnership and corporation.A sole proprietorship has a type of business which is unincorporated and owned and managed by one person. This organization style has a low cost of organizing, is used by small business, and is limited to the financial resources of the owner. Partnership is a type of business in which more persons, called general partners, manage the business and is equally liable for debts. While other individuals, called limited partners, may invest, they are not directly involved in the operation of the company and are liable only to the extent of their investment.Corporation is business that is a legal entity created through the laws of its state of incorporation. Anyone who operates a business, alone or with others, may incorporate. It includes ownership divided into shares of stock and sold to shareholders. There are various types of business entity throughout the world. The abbreviations GmbH in Germany, Inc. in the United States, or Ltd. in most other English-speaking countries indicate that the firm is a limited liability company and investors have nothing more to lose than the money invested in their shares. The S. A. in French and Spanish-speaking countries also refers to limited liability by defining shareholders as anonymous. Since the identity of shareholders can be kept secret, the creditors of a bankrupt company have no right to pursue them for the companys unpaid debts. Talking about business, it is hard not to say about international business. International Business conducts business transactions all over the world. These transactions include the transfer of goods, services, technology, managerial knowledge, and capital to other countries. It involves exports and imports.International business has many options for doing business, it includes: exporting goods and services, giving license to produce goods in the host country, starting a joint venture with a company, opening a branch for producing ; distributing goods in the host country and so on. To finish up my topic I would like to say that there are a lot of types and forms of business organization, not only those, which I mentioned, and every type and form has its advantages and disadvantages. I think if you let your business work for you, you will be a very successful person.

The Symbolism of Religion and Comparison Analysis Essay Example For Students

The Symbolism of Religion and Comparison Analysis Essay In comparing the books Confession of the Jews and First Confession,I have found there to be similarities and differences. For example, FirstConfession deals with a boy converting from a boy to a young man by going toconfession and telling his sins for the first time. Conversion of the Jewsdeals with converting a boy into someone he has never really seen which was afree thinker which only older people usually do. In Conversion of the Jews Ozzie, who was the main character, had aproblem with getting along with the priest Rabbi Binder at Hebrew School. RabbiBinder didnt really like Ozzie because he was always asking a lot of questionsand Rabbi Binder was always getting angry at him. In First Confession Jackie, the main character, also had a problem. Jackies problem was similar to Ozzies, but also different. Jackie had a problem with his sister Nora. Nora believedthat Jackie was always lying and being bad. On his confession day his mothersent Nora go with Jackie. Nora ordered Jackie to tell all of his sins, includinghow he was mean to the grandmother who lived with them. We will write a custom essay on The Symbolism of Religion and Comparison Analysis specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Ozzie seemed troubled to Rabbi Binder in Conversion of the Jews. Inreality Jackie wasnt bad at all, he was just a boy who wanted answers to hisquestions. And that was proved when Ozzie asked a question in class and RabbiBinder went crazy and hit Ozzie because he thought Ozzie was trying to be a wiseguy. So Ozzie tried to prove a point to Rabbi Binder and his fellow classmatesby running to the roof and making believe he was going to jump. With Ozziebeing on the roof it gave Rabbi Binder a bigger belief that Ozzie was crazy andtroubled. Ozzie wasnt really crazy, he was just trying to make a point that hereally wasnt dumb. Ozzie just wanted to believe that there was really a Christ. So with the point that Ozzie was trying to make helped to convert everyone andtheir beliefs. Jackie, like Ozzie, was also troubled in First Confession. He was ayoung boy who lived with his family, including the grandmother. Jackie believedthe grandmother didnt like him very much, so he did mean things to her likehide under the table when she cooked dinner. When it came time for his firstconfession he went with his sister Nora. Nora tormented Jackie and scared himinto believing he was a sinner and he will pay for all of his sins. Jackie wasnot as bad as Nora made him out to be, he was just being a normal young boy. When Jackies turn was up to make his confession, he was unsure of what to do sohe did what he thought was right but messed up and ended up humiliating Nora. In reality the priest did not find anything wrong with what Jackie did, thepriest actually found it to be very amusing. Jackie went ahead and told hissins and ended up only having to say three hail Marys. Nora was in completeshock and could not believe such a sinner got off with such an easy penance, butJackie did and also made good friends with the priest. Religion was very important in both stories. First Confession dealswith being in church and telling sins to a priest which is what most Catholicspractice in a catholic church. In Conversion of the Jews the children went toHebrew School which was a way for the Jews to practice their religion. The twostories are different in religion ways but they are the same for the ways theypreach and how it is taught. .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .postImageUrl , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:hover , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:visited , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:active { border:0!important; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:active , .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7 .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u014143467c33720a66431b5bf138a9b7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Trifles By Susan Glaspel EssayIn comparing the two boys, I would have to say that they are verysimilar in ways of their conscience. Ozzie was scared to get in trouble and hedid not do it on purpose but it always happened that he did get in trouble. Hejust wanted to be taught about his religion the right way but he felt he nevergot the answers he needed to his questions which led him to the roof. He knewit was not right for him to jump off the roof, so he just tormented everyoneinto thinking he was going to jump. He had a guilty conscience because he kneweveryone was starting to worry, but he stayed until he proved his point. As forJackie, I believe his sister Nora gave him a conscience. She made him believehe was very bad and only sinned all the time. He did not feel so bad when hewas doing the wrong things, but he did feel bad when it was time to confess. Even though he had a conscience of believing he was bad, the priest did notthink he was so bad. By telling the priest all of his sins, Jackie was relievedof his guilty conscience and was finally able to feel good about himself. Not only was their conscience that made them similar, but also theiridentity. Ozzie and Jackie both found who they were in the two stories. Ozziealways believed he was just a trouble maker because that is what he always heard, but I knew he really was not a trouble maker. Ozzie did what he did for apurpose including going to the roof. Being on the roof helped him realize whatwas going on around him. It helped him realize who he was and what he wasbecoming. Ozzie was just a boy wanting to learn without getting into trouble. Jackie found who he was while telling the priest his sins, all of them. Jackiereally was not bad, everyone just told him that he was all the time, so that iswhat he started believing. He was just a boy doing and acting how young boys act. All little kids, including girls, are not perfect, so how can anyone expectJackie to be perfect. Just because Nora believed she was perfect does not meanJackie is bad because he does not follow how Nora acts. Jackie found his trueself while telling the priest all of his sins, which made him feel he canactually live with himself. Reading both stories gave me a sense of what both religions are like. Im catholic and already know what it is like to go to confession, but I neverhad an experience like Jackie. I am very familiar with the Jewish religion, butnever heard of Ozzies experience, not that it even happens in everyday life. Category: Religion

Further, the report aims to help the Brook and Kent Company limited in proper implementation of their performance management so as to help improve the quantity and quality of work that the employees produce. Introduction Most organisation do not really comprehend what performance management really means. Therefore, these organisations are usually dismayed at why sometimes the employees may be working hard, and are satisfied with their jobs but still the outcomes from the work of the employees do not reflect the input that the managers and supervisors expect. This usually makes the managers and supervisors to wonder what they may be doing wrong in helping to increase the productivity of the workers. In most of these situations, the managers or supervisors have usually gotten the concept of performance management all wrong, hence this is portrayed in the outcomes of the work done by the employees. Performance management can be explained in simple terms as the activities which an employer or the organisation may take to ensure that the goals which are set are consistently achieved and in an efficient and effective method. The performance management can be used to evaluate the performance of employees, a department within the organisation or the performance of the whole organisation in general. Generally, performance management tries to bring out the best out of the employees’ ability, to enable the organisation achieve good returns. For instance, some organisations use reward based performance management to reward the employees who are perceived to have high performance. Rewarding is a form of recognition for the employees contribution towards the attainment of the main objectives within the business. This report will attempt to evaluate the main concepts of the performance management, which should be applied to organizations to ensure the effectiveness of their performance management systems.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Moreover, the findings of this report will be based on the problems that Brooks Kent Company limited, a small construction SME, faces. Performance management system For many organisations, the performance management system is first implemented through the creation of an effective business strategy, i.e. strategic planning. The business strategy determines where the business would like to be after a specific period of time. Normally, the period may be six months, one year or even ten years. In addition, the business strategy should have a close relationship with the main objective of the business, as well as pay close attention to the means of performance appraisal in recognition of outstanding achievement by the employees of the company (Verweire and Berghe, 2004, p 93). The performance appraisal may take different forms; Brook and Kent opted for the reward based appraisal. However, the appraisals may also be used in other forms which are not re ward-based. The reward based appraisals of Brook Kent takes the form of promotions, salary increase and the issue of bonuses to outstanding work by the employees. This helps in improving the motivation of the workers as their effort is recognised by the management of the company. In the research, the following systems were reviewed, to explain the reward based management organisation of the Brook Kent and how the theories may be used to solve some of the problems existing at the company and improve productivity. Therefore, the main purpose which makes an organisation to implement a performance management system is to ensure that: The employees do the work which the organisation requires them to do. Normally, the performance management system specifies the specific work which the employees supposed to do (anon. 2007 p 1). The employees know the amount of work that the organisation requires them to do and the quality of the work which they should produce. This therefore guides the employee by putting specific targets which the employee is supposed to meet to satisfy the organisation (anon, 2007, p 1). The performance management system also ensures that the employees’ output is monitored closely and the information on their ongoing performance communicated to them. This makes the employees to make the necessary correction on their quantity or quality of work to ensure that they achieve the set performance in the set period of time (anon, 2007, p 1). The performance management system also ensures that exemplary work is rewarded, based on the performance management system that the organisation is using. The performance management system also ensures that necessary measures are taken on an employee who fails to meet the set performance standards (anon, 2007, p 1). Both these measures ensure that the organisation achieves its strategic objectives as set out. The main components of a performance management system include: Communicating the performance expe ctations which the organisation requires its employees to achieve; Maintaining and monitoring the ongoing performance of the employees of the organisation; and Conducting regular performance appraisal (Anon, 2007 p 2). During the initial stages of the implementation of the performance management system, the organisation should come up with effective strategies which fit with the main objectives of the business. In normal circumstances, the application of the organization strategies should be implemented using the appropriate performance management system. How the organisation implements the strategies in the performance management system ensures whether the strategies will be effectively met. After the planning stage, the organization should effectively communicate the strategies to the employees and ensure that they are embedded in the organisational culture of the company concerned. This ensures that the employees will continuously strive to achieve the set performance standards as they relate with the standards. This is usually the most important component of a performance management system.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Performance management systems linked to reward specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More If the organisation fails to effectively communicate the performance management system to the employees, there is a very high possibility that the performance standards in the organisation will not be achieved. This is because the employees may not associate with the set standards and may be on the perception that the performance management system does not benefit them (Taticchi, 2010, p 245). For an effective and efficient performance management system, the organisation must continuously maintain, monitor and analyse the performance management standards. The organisation must use data which is reliable, and have an effective method of interpreting the data. This helps the organization to d etermine the progress of the employees with regard to the performance management standards which have been put for them. The organisation should also communicate its findings to the employees so that they may take the necessary measures. The organisation should have effective means of appraising exemplary performance of its employees. This helps in motivating the workers who have performed better and also help in motivating the other workers to also perform better as they are guaranteed efficient appraisal methods. However, if the organisation fails to plan and implement the performance appraisal effectively, it may lead to reduced performance of the employees. This may happen if only a few people are rewarded and there are many other people expecting to be rewarded. This makes those people who were not rewarded to get demotivated (Rao and Rao 2004 p 13). Motivation Motivation of employees is a very vital aspect, which all managers usually consider. Employee motivation can be define d as the set of forces, which guide a person to continuously strive to achieve a certain goal. Generally, the origin of the forces may either be internal or external. Employee motivation enables the individual to find pleasure in the process of achieving the goals set by the company to continuously endeavour to improve on the outcomes of his activities. Therefore, motivated employees will perform better as they find pleasure in their activities and therefore put more effort in implementation of the activities.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Different organisations implement performance management systems so as to help improve the quality and quantity of output that the employees produce. The organisations aim to do this by improving the motivation of the employees in different ways to enable them to achieve the required performance standards. To achieve this, the performance management system has several methods of employee appraisal, which help in motivating the employees to perform better as the organisation would recognise their outstanding contribution to the organisational goals. The performance management systems not only determine the appraisal methods, but it also determines what actions will be taken on the employees for failure to reach their performances. Performance management usually determines the rewards which the employees will get due to the achievement of their performances. Normally, the rewards may be in the form of promotions, bonuses, salary increases or recognition. This helps in motivating the e mployees to achieve the rewards. However, the performance management is also used to determine what measures will be taken to an employee who fails to achieve his expected performance. The measures taken may range from demotions, forfeited bonuses and allowances to loss of the job. This, according to Jeremy Bentham’s â€Å"the carrot and the stick motivation theory† helps in motivating the employees to achieve their performances. According to Bentham, all individuals are motivated by the urge to avoid pain and find pleasure in the activities they take. Bentham stated that â€Å"a worker will work only if the reward is big enough or the punishment is sufficiently unpleasant† (Cited in Shah and Shah, 2010). Bentham was of the view that if you want a donkey to move you either have to dangle a carrot in front of it or whack it with a stick from behind hence the name, â€Å"the carrot and the stick† (Shah and Shah 2010). In the context of employee motivation i n relation to performance management, pay rise, promotion, bonus or recognition are the â€Å"carrot† which aid in motivating the worker. More often, the employee will strive to achieve his/her performance so as to get the rewards. On the other hand, demotions, forfeited bonuses and allowances, and loss of the job are the â€Å"stick† which motivates the employee to work and achieve his/her performance, in a way of avoiding such ‘stick’. The relationship between motivation and performance management can also be explained by the Victor Vroom’s valence x expectation motivation theory. Vroom states that â€Å"an employee is motivated to perform better if he/she believes that the better performance will lead to better performance appraisal and that this shall result into the realisation of personal goal in form of some reward† ( shah and shah, 2010, part 8). In our context, the performance management outlines the various appraisal methods which m ay be given to the employees in case he/she attains his/her performance. According to Vroom, the employee is not motivated by the actions taken against him/her for failure to reach the set performance. However, the employee gets motivation from the perceived rewards which he/ she may get due to attainment of his/her performance. There are usually different appraisal methods which are used by different organisations to help in motivating their employees. However, a recent form of performance appraisal which is mostly used by different organisation is the total reward method of appraisal. Total reward system It is widely agreed by different scholars that people do not work just to get paid; the reasons that make people work are far much more than the pay, which the organisation may offer to the employees. Therefore, for an organisation to be able to effectively motivate the employees they must not just use the payment, but must also understand and take measures to ensure that the empl oyees needs are met, which in turn leads to motivation. Different theories have been proposed to explain the source of motivation of the employees, some of which have already been discussed above. Therefore, to achieve motivation, the organisation needs to use the total reward system to acquire motivation of its workforce. However, careful observation of the motivation theories shows that employees are mainly motivated due the fulfilment of their needs, both material and immaterial. This is usually the basis of the total reward system. Total reward is defined by Worldatwork, the association which deals with total reward in the US, as all the tools which an employer may use to attract, motivate and retain employees and anything which the employee recognises to be valuable according to the employment relationship (Armstrong, 2002, p 8). The total reward system therefore, has many components, both financial (material) and non-financial (immaterial). Different scholars have proposed dif ferent constituents of the total reward performance management appraisal method. However, even though the general components are different, most of the components are similar to those proposed by Worldatwork. The main components of the total reward system according to Worldatwork (2005) are: pay, benefits, and learning and development (Jiang et al, 2009, p 4). Pay refers to all the forms of recognition which have monitory value attached to them. It includes base salary, bonus allowances and any other form of recognition which has financial payment attached to it. This payment helps in attracting highly qualified personnel to the organisation and also in retaining them. The benefits include retirement benefits, healthcare benefits, savings and time, which the employee may be given to spend as he wishes. The benefits which are given to the employees are mainly meant to protect their future and reduce uncertainty. Moreover, reduction in the uncertainty of the employee helps in increas ing his motivation to the work as he is assured of his future needs being met by his employer (Armstrong, 2002, p 9). Learning and development facilitates career growth and knowledge improvement in employees. Normally, learning and development may take the form of career development and training. This usually helps in retaining the employee into the organisation as the activity satisfies the personal development needs of the individual. Moreover, learning and development is not necessarily a financial gain to the employee; it just helps to improve the employee satisfaction by and helping to quench his thirst of knowledge. Summary and Conclusion The above report has explicitly explained the performance management systems. The understanding of the performance management system will enable Brook and Kent to take the appropriate measures to help in improving the employee motivation. The main problem, which Brook and Kent faces, is the fact that their appraisal methods are not effective. In addition, managers do not appraise exemplary performance at the required time, and delay in appraising the achievement makes the employees feel demotivated as their contribution to the organisation is not recognised. Moreover, some of the employees feel that they deserve to be rewarded yet fail to get the rewards, as it takes long to reward exemplary work. Brook and Kent should therefore implement a performance management system which regularly recognises exemplary work. The organisation should also implement a total reward performance management appraisal system which will cater for all the needs of the employees not only material but also immaterial. Implementation of the recommendations and a clear understanding of the performance management systems will enable Books and Kent Company limited to have high quantity and quality returns after the implementation of the performance management system.
